Accelerate the development of protected vegetable industry in southern Xinjiang

In recent years, with the vigorous development of protected vegetable industry in Xinjiang, the arid Tarim Basin is gradually saying goodbye to the situation that a large number of fresh vegetables rely on external transfer.

As one of the deep poverty-stricken areas, Kashgar region plans to build a 1 million mu high-quality vegetable base by 2020, increase the local vegetable supply, extend the vegetable industry chain, and take the vegetable planting industry as the leading industry of increasing farmers’ income.

Recently, in the Xinjiang Kashi (Shandong Shuifa) modern vegetable industrial park on the outskirts of Shule County, Kashi Prefecture, we saw that more than 100 workers and several large-scale machinery and equipment were under construction, and more than 900 greenhouses under construction were arranged in order, showing the embryonic form.

As an investment promotion project of Shandong’s aid to Xinjiang, the industrial park will start construction in 2019, covering an area of 4711 mu, with a planned total investment of 1.06 billion yuan. The first phase plans to build 70000 square meters of intelligent Dutch greenhouse, 6480 square meters of seedling center and 1000 greenhouses.

Tarim Basin is rich in light and heat resources, but because it is close to the desert, the soil salinization is serious, the temperature difference between morning and night is large, the bad weather occurs frequently, the vegetable planting types are few, the yield is low, the production and operation mode is backward, and the vegetable self supply capacity is weak. Taking Kashgar as an example, 60% of the vegetables in winter and spring need to be transferred, and the wholesale price of vegetables is generally higher than that in other cities in Xinjiang.

Liu Yanshi, the person in charge of the vegetable industrial park and deputy general manager of Shandong Shuifa group Xinjiang Donglu water control agricultural development Co., Ltd., introduced that the construction of the vegetable industrial park is to introduce Shandong mature vegetable planting technology into southern Xinjiang, drive the development of Kashgar vegetable industry, and solve the problems of low yield, few varieties, short listing period and unstable price of local vegetables.

After the completion of the modern vegetable industrial park, the annual output of fresh vegetables will reach 1.5 million tons, the annual processing capacity of vegetables will reach 1 million tons, and 3000 jobs will be provided stably.

At present, 40 greenhouses built in 2019 have been in stable operation, and the remaining 960 greenhouses are planned to be put into use by the end of August 2020. In view of the fact that farmers in southern Xinjiang are unfamiliar with greenhouse planting, enterprises are preparing to set up agricultural training schools to train a group of knowledgeable and skilled industrial workers to enter the park for employment. In addition, the company also recruited more than 20 experienced greenhouse planting experts from Shandong, contracted 40 greenhouses, and accelerated the teaching of planting technology in the local area.

Wu Qingxiu, a farmer from Shandong Province, came to Xinjiang in September 2019 and currently contracts 12 greenhouses* In the past six months, she has planted tomatoes, peppers, melons and other crops in batches. She told reporters that the greenhouse is now in the stage of soil improvement, and it is expected to be profitable in three years.

In addition to the strong support of the provinces in Xinjiang, Xinjiang has also promoted the development of vegetable industry in southern Xinjiang from a high level, and comprehensively improved the guarantee ability of vegetable supply in Xinjiang. In 2020, Xinjiang will start to implement the three-year action plan for the development of protected vegetable industry in southern Xinjiang, and plan to build a modern protected vegetable industry system, production system and management system.

According to the action plan, southern Xinjiang will focus on the development of farmers’ courtyard arch shed and expand the scale of facility agriculture. In order to achieve full coverage of county and township seedling centers and village vegetable seedling demand guarantee, we should promote the planting mode of “early spring and late autumn” in field and arch shed, and strive to achieve the goal of increasing annual income of 1000 yuan per courtyard.

In the seedling center of kumusilik Township, Shule County, several villagers are raising seedlings in the greenhouse. Thanks to the help of the village working team of Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the existing 10 greenhouses and 15 greenhouses under construction are upgraded to “5g + Internet of things”, and the greenhouse data information can be mastered and remotely managed through mobile app.

With the help of this “brand-new thing”, Kumu xilike Township seedling center will cultivate more than 1.6 million “early spring” vegetable seedlings, grapes and fig seedlings in 2020, providing all kinds of high-quality seedlings for more than 3000 vegetable arch sheds in 21 villages of the township.
